The report summarizes one phase of an experimental and analytical program to quantify the effect of bus-induced aerodynamic disturbances on adjacent vehicle safety performance. This report presents the results of bus and disturbed-vehicle lateral placement measures on the highway, using MC-6 and MC-7 buses and a variety of roadway geometries and ambient wind conditions. The other phases of the study involved wind tunnel experiments, driver/vehicle response and performance analyses and simulations, and full scale tests with instrumented vehicles at an off-the-highway test site. The results of these phases are reported elsewhere.
