The report comprises six chapters. The first explains the concept of a road management system. The second indicates the criteria which permit the selection of a system or a strategy within a system. The third chapter explains how to be aware of the costs involved in road management and the physical laws affecting pavements. The fourth chapter details all the data which must be collected. The fifth describes the internal characteristics of the various management systems. Finally, a sixth chapter provides some examples.
