The proposal concerns an Air Combat Maneuvering Range, twenty-five miles square between the altitudes of 4,000 and 50,000 feet, to be established over Pamlico Sound, North Carolina. Aircrews will engage each other in simulated combat and be trained and evaluated by ground based instrumentation and instructor pilots. Some engine noise and an occasional sonic boom will be heard on and around Pamlico Sound.
