In less than one average lifetime man has progressed from the first powered flight of 120 feet in 1903 to a lunar landing in 1969. In 1981 a new era began in manned space flight as America's first reusable Space Shuttle embarked on its maiden voyage - beginning the Space Shuttle Era. The Space Shuttle's launch operations, mission, components, payloads, and ground turnaround capabilities are highlighted.
