Three hundred 1978 through 1982 in-use light duty vehicles were obtained from the public, in the San Antonio, Metropolitan Area. These vehicles were tested as received, for exhaust emissions utilizing the Federal Test Procedure (FTP), the Highway Fuel Economy Test (HFET), and four short mode tests. All vehicles were subjected to a through emissions control component inspection. Fifty vehicles which failed to meet applicable standards, received maintenance and a retest.
