Aircraft space position data were collected during flights over area navigation routes and conventional victor airways. The prime measurement source was the New York Air Route Traffic Control Center surveillance radar and secondary beacon radar with a beacon video digitizer output to a specially developed magnetic tape recorder. The final format of the measurement data analysis consisted of statistical computations of the lateral deviations of the aircraft from the desired course. Measurements were made during a total of 223 flights on four area navigation routes and a total of 117 flights on four conventional routes. The measurements of the conventional navigation flights on the preferred victor airways were made for comparison purposes. (Author)
