The product assurance requirements for ESA projects have gradually increased in line with the increased complexity of satellites and the requests for longer life. The Spacelab program involves some new aspects which impact the established ESA product assurance baseline requirements. This is due to the manned aspect, i.e. the requirements for a habitable environment. Therefore, additional requirements on materials are imposed such as non-flammable, non-toxic and non-odor. The total safety program is also more emphasized due to the human safety aspect. (Author)
