The article gives a review of the theory of the aerodynamic performance of horizontal-axis wind turbines. The review is restricted to horizontal-axis turbines (propeller type) because the analysis is now in a transition phase from relatively simple to more sophisticated. After a short description of the basic aerodynamic conversion process and the application of the conservation laws, the calculation methods are discussed. The review is concluded with some remarks on the experimental confirmation of the theory.
