The paper presents the results of a study to implement HErmes Robot Arm (HERA) training concepts onto a set of training facilities. Three training centers were found to meet the functional facility requirements: The Robotics Training Facility at ESTEC, the Pilot Training Facility at Brussels, Belgium, and the European Astronaut Center at Cologne, Germany. Additional functions for each of the facilities were identified and specified. Special attention was paid to the possible utilization of the 1-g HERA facility planned to be installed at ESTEC and to the implementation of training of HERA operations combined with Extra Vehicular Activities by the astronauts. Finally, the programmatic aspects of the training facility concept were analyzed against the overall development schedules for the main elements of the European In-Orbit Infrastructure system.
