The author of this study compared two years of Soviet military periodicals on tactics with recent US Army publications on Soviet tactics. The purpose was to discover any discrepancies between the two. He found that in general US publications correctly reported Soviet tactical doctrine. However, several key areas of Soviet doctrine were not emphasized sufficiently in US sources. Key among these were the role of reconnaissance and the flexibility of the Soviet attack. (Author)
