National Aviation System expansion has noticeably failed to keep pace during recent years with aircraft development and with the tremendous increases in air transportation demand. Continued growth is forecast, with flight activity in 1981 projected to double the 1970 activity. The National Aviation System Plan provides for the orderly acquisition of new facilities and equipment at a rate sufficient to catch up the existing backlog as well as to satisfy future needs. Provision has been made for incorporating products of the development process into the system plan.
