The report is a multidisciplinary investigation of an accident involving one car which went out of control when the driver went to sleep. The vehicle entered an expressway median and struck a steel guard rail and a bridge abutment as the driver attempted to re-enter the roadway. The vehicle rolled down an embankment between two grade separation structures. The driver was ejected from the car. The speed of impact with the guard rail and bridge was 30-50 miles per hour. The car was a total loss and the driver suffered cerebral concussion, fractures and other serious injuries. (Author)
