The project provides for widening and deepening the existing project and includes reconstruction of existing highway and railroad bridges over the waterway. This project will provide safer passage for marine traffic. Adverse environmental effects resulting from the widening and deepening cannot be determined until an ecological study is completed. If adverse biological effects are encountered, flow controlling devices could be installed to mitigate the environmental stress resulting from too great a net flow from Chesapeake Bay.
