The objectives originally set for the Olympus earth segment are reviewed. The progress made in the construction of the various earth facilities as concerns both the ESA activities and those of the user community are presented. It is concluded that once the satellite is in orbit, the ground facilities will be sufficient to test Olympus and to begin utilizing its payload.
