Results of nine gunfire tests on an F-105 wing are presented. The purpose of the tests was to provide a data base from which to plan studies in aircraft structural vulnerability. Seven-millimeter and 30-caliber projectiles were fired at the lower wing surface at varying velocities. High-speed motion picture cameras recorded projectile lower surface impact, upper surface exit, and resulting surface damage. Results show that significant damage can be inflicted on the upper surface by fragments from the projectile, lower surface, and substructure. (Author)
