The US Army Aviation Test Board conducted the product-improvement test of the 40mm flexible chutes to determine their suitability and reliability for use with the XM28 armament subsystem. During August and September 1968 at the Apalachicola, Florida, test site, the chutes were tested under aerial firing conditions on an AH-1G Helicopter. Using a twin 40mm configuration of the XM28, 6,503 rounds were fired from the left XM129 grenade launcher and 6,140 rounds were fired from the right XM129 without evidence of failure. (Author)
