This paper provides an interpretation of avionics architecture with respect to system components, organization, and design factors. Initially, general avionics architecture characteristics are addressed followed by discussions on emerging new technologies and their impact and advanced systems. Information handling requirements are projected for future tactical aircraft. In addition, advanced avionics architecture design consideration and technical issues are addressed relative to achieving improved performance, reliability, survivability, flexibility and low life cycle cost.
