In this paper the important features of aircraft noise are summarized, with special reference to Adelaide Airport and the surrounding community. What creates aircraft noise is examined and units of noise measurement are discussed. Other problems associated with the existence of aircraft noise are discussed, as well as surveys which have attempted to measure aircraft noise and its effects. The study also discusses how statutory land use planning has and can be used to help alleviate the effects of aircraft noise, and the existing problems around Adelaide Airport and future developments are examined.
