A brief theoretical examination of the use of blocking masses for application to helicopter structure is presented. The effects of a periodic array of blocking masses are compared with the effect of a single blocking mass for a bending wave on a plate. The significance of the modal structure is demonstrated, and the analysis of the excitation of a membrane strip at a point between two blocking masses is used to illustrate how the energy flow varies with frequency of excitation.
