The purpose of this effort was to determine the effectiveness of several newly developed identification beacons for airport emergency vehicles. Fourteen different light bar configurations were tested on the National Aviation Facilities Experimental Center (NAFEC) airport during various environmental conditions and a human appraisal of the different combinations was performed for suitable airport use. The results lead to conclusions as to which signal characteristics are most effective for use within the aircraft movement areas of airports. (Author)
