Finland is an associate member of the ESA and will become a full member starting the year 1995. The following projects and their science, and how to benefit from the Horizon 2000 program, of which a major part is basic astronomy covering the whole range of electromagnetic spectrum to study various astronomical structures from stars to cosmology, are reviewed: ERNE solar flare particle detector (ESA); SPECTRUM-X-GAMMA High Energy X-ray Observatory (USSR, NASA, ESA, several European countries); ISOPHOT Infrared Space Observatory Photometer (ESA); RADIOASTRON Radio Interferometer (USSR, NASA, ESA, several other countries).
