Reliability and maintainability (RM) evaluations can be conducted during the initial flight test of new and modified aerospace systems. Newly developed equipment usually has only a fraction of the reliability needed. These evaluations, combined with extensive laboratory test efforts, are required to bring the system to an acceptable level of RM performance. No flight time is normally dedicated to these RM evaluations, but some ground time is required. Other unique required resources include trained RM engineering personnel, RM data, and data reduction capability. Results include identification of RM deficiencies and measurement of RM parameters.
