This manual describes the Marine Amphibious Deployment Simulation (MARADS) system. The system includes means for: storage and retrieval of data describing organizations, personnel, equipment, supplies, ships, and transfer vehicles; conversion of simple statements identifying organizations into detailed listings of personnel, equipment, and supplies; allocation of personnel, equipment, and supplies to subforces and the assignment of subforces to transfer vehicles; simulation of the ship-to-shore operation, including the computation of the number of transfer vehicles needed, by type; computation of the number of ships, by type, required to transport the forces and transfer vehicles; and computation of key times throughout the entire deployment and assault operations. MARADS is programmed in the FORTRAN II language for the CDC 1604-A and IBM 7090/94 computer. The MARADS User's Manual is an instructional text for the analyst or planner who intends to use the MARADS system as written. The manual contains a general discussion of the MARADS system and a detailed description of input preparation for each of its four programs. A discussion of the application of MARADS to operational planning, the Embarkation Lift Summary System, and a table of Vehicle Payload Dimensions are included. The User's Manual updates, expands, and supersedes NWRC Research Memorandum 19, 'An Amphibious Deployment Simulation Model: The MARADS System,' published in July 1963, which should be destroyed.
