This document provides a systematically organized collection of abstracts from the NTIS bibliographic data base relating to Transportation Safety and describes work originating from countries outside the USA. A tailored search of the data base was performed and the output carefully categorized, edited and indexed. Some 75 percent of the reports described deal with safety aspects of ground transportation; the remainder are on air traffic safety. The majority of the foreign technology originates from Western Europe, about half of this being from the Transport and Road Research Laboratory in the UK. Other important sources of technology referred to in the report include: National Swedish Road and Traffic Research Institute, Institute for Transport Economics (Norway), Institute of Road Safety Research (Netherlands) and National Institute for Transport and Road Research (South Africa). Most reports are in their native language, but titles are annotated to advise readers of non-English texts. A proportion of foreign language documents have author abstracts and summaries in English. Major subject headings include: GROUND TRANSPORTATION--Traffic Engineering and Safety; Accident Research and Investigation; Hazards and Accident Prevention; Human Factors; Pedestrian Safety; Motor Vehicles; Motor Cycles and Pedal Cycles; AIR TRANSPORTATION--Traffic Control and Aviation Safety; Accident Research and Investigation; Hazards and Accident Prevention; Rescue Systems. Each of the 19 sections in the book is cross-referenced; there is also an author index and useful subject index based on major descriptors. Copyright (c) Infocom, 1982.
