The project is located in Clay County, Alabama on Federal Aid Secondary Route No. 09. Its purpose is to replace a dangerous and inadequate bridge over Crooked Creek and to eliminate a very dangerous and blind railroad crossing. The new Bridge and pavement will provide an all weather and safe crossing of the creek and railroad for present traffic and anticipated traffic that is anticipated to climb to ADT 650 by 1990. The proposed project will provide an all weather, safe stream and railroad crossing for commercial trucks now having to avoid an impassable route, and it will be safe for the pulpwood trucks and school buses now using this route. An anticipated recreation area within a mile or so over in Randolph County will be made accessible from both North and South for cars and boat trailers. Any negative impact will be only temporary. The project will require approximately six acres of land for right of way, approximately 70% of which is in use now by the present County Road and Bridge.
