A Traveling Wave Tube Amplifier (TWT-A) and a klystron amplifier were developed for the Active Microwave Instrument of the ESA satellite ERS-1. Performance tests are summarized. Results show the feasibility of building a high power amplifier to operate under ERS-1 conditions and support the selection of either a TWT or a klystron for use on the ERS-1 spacecraft.
