Because of the large volume of air traffic that operates into and out of Chicago's O'Hare Internatinal Airport (ORD), dense fog there can results in flight delays across the nation. By studying the climatology of dense fog and its characteristics at O'Hare, forecasters may be able to produce more accurate fog forecasts for the airport and the surrounding area.
