The projects consist of a four-lane facility from an intersection with Mercer County Route 25 to an intersection with Mercer County Route 19/20 and beyond into the Rock Crusher Hollow (the 290 Segment of Appalachian Corridor Q) and a four-lane facility from an intersection with Mercer County Route 19/20 to an intersection with Interstate 77 just north of the East River Mountain Tunnel (Relocated Route 29). The 290 Segment (Project No. APD-200(24) will be 2.1 miles in length. The Relocated Route 29 (Project No. S-698(2) is 1 - 3/4 miles in length. The facilities will provide access to I-77 both to and from Bluefield as well as completing a link in the Appalachian Corridor Q network. Transportation will be made safer, faster and more efficient for both local and through motorists. The strain of traffic congestion on downtown Bluefield will be relieved. Minor construction-related effects will be felt. The removal of a number of residences in right-of-way acquisition will be an adverse impact. Slight increases in air and noise pollution may be felt throughout the entire project length.
