The objective of this study was to evaluate more precisely the accuracy of ship-motion strip theory for ships in head seas. Theoretical and experimental results were compared for the Mariner hull and for a destroyer hull with and without a bow modification. In view of the good agreement found, it was concluded that for practical design purposes, strip theory can be used to predict head-seas motions with satisfactory accuracy provided there is adequate station representation.
