This report deals with criteria for traffic signal installation on rural intersections. However, much of the information applies to urban areas as well. The criteria involve the following influences on signal installation: traffic flow, accident rates and perception of safety, noise and air-pollution, energy consumption, cost of installation and maintenance. The concluding chapter describes ways of combining these different criteria.
