The general trend in matters concerning the environment, safety, and the availability and use of energy emphasizes the need to study, as far as possible simultaneously, the way in which these and other factors may affect, both singly and in unison, the development of motor vehicles. This study looks into the future of motor vehicles and transportation in general; it reveals a great many areas of uncertainty, where answers are not yet available but will have to be found.
