A short description of the various techniques in use for the establishment of aircraft reference trajectories is presented. Then a description of the principles and operation of the EUROCONTROL program MURATREC (Multi-Radar Trajectory Reconstitution) follows, covering in particular: (1) estimation of systematic radar errors; (2) curve fitting by the use of B-splines and dynamically adaptable spline steps; (3) accuracy of the reconstructed positional information; and (4) reconstitution of altitude, accelerations and speed. Applications of the MURATREC program are outlined, including application for the analysis of radar plot and track accuracy (examples) and possible applications for incident investigations, on-line alignment of multi-radar information and simulation of aircraft trajectories in a given radar environment.
