The work leading to these tables and procedures was initiated because it was recognized that the air saturation tables previously available were unsatisfactory in a number of respects. A computational model was developed at the Admiralty Research Establishment Physiological Laboratory and a structured program of chamber dives was undertaken to develop the model and to determine its sensitivity. The resulting tables have been based upon the best information currently available, both from the experimental data and from a comparison with the limited field data from other sources.
