The problems related to the fact that in the fire area the conventional transport aircraft C-160 experiences atmospheric conditions outside its normal operating domain were studied. The system air-assisted forest fire fighting was delimited, and the single system components were defined, thereby making the relevant influence parameters recognizable. Assumptions in the sense of a worst-case philosophy, and modelling allowed to elucidate the problems and to discuss them in the framework of the available knowledge. Thermics are found to be essential, since they can cause high dynamic loading or stalling.
