A programme of research to evaluate the corrosion and stress corrosion resistance of experimental, pre-production and production quality aluminium - lithium sheet and plate alloys is described. Accelerated laboratory tests and outdoor trials have been used to compare the corrosion behaviour of aluminium - lithium alloys with conventional aerospace alloys. The work was carried out at National Lucht-en Ruimtevaartlaboratorium, Deutsche Forschungs- und Versuchsanstalt fur Luft- und Raumfahrt, Fokker and Royal Aerospace Establishment as part of the collaborative Group for Aeronautical Research and Technology in Europe Group of Responsables for Structures and Materials AG07 activity on aluminium - lithium alloys. Keywords: Alloys, Corrosion, Metallurgy, Great Britain, Netherlands, West Germany, Symposia. (JG)
