Subsystem level aspects of the out-of-ecliptic mission using the Ariane launch vehicle are discussed. The following items are covered: propulsion systems; structure; attitude and orbit control system; telecommunications; data handling; thermal control; booms; and power. The subsystem philosophy adopted makes extensive use of that developed in previous studies, but the opportunity has been taken to re-assess these, and there are some significant changes as a result of the Ariane based mission requirements.
