Federal employees frequently have not obtained available discount airline fares because the General Services Administration and other Federal agencies have inadequate financial controls and oversight of agency travel. As a result, millions of dollars have been spent unnecessarily on commercial air travel. Agencies could also save on travel personnel and administrative costs by using teleticket machines more effectively and by purchasing rather than leasing them. Costs would be reduced in procuring airline tickets, processing unused tickets for refunds, and auditing travel expenditures by the General Services Administration.
