Three case histories of bio-deterioration due to fungi are reviewed. Fungal accelerated deterioration has recently been documented in aircraft fuel storage tanks, painted interior surfaces of helicopters, and wire high-lines stored in humid environments on wooden spools. In addition to the obvious aesthetic problems requiring expensive, labor intensive amelioration, growth of fungi can cause microbiologically influenced corrosion (MIC).
