A device for displaying to the pilot or the flight crew of an aircraft the level of turbulence due to rough air over a selected period of time is described. An accelerometer is placed on the aircraft to produce signals of the motion of the aircraft due to rough air. The output from the accelerometer is applied to an absolute value circuit and then to a root square circuit. The output of the root mean square circuit is measured and displayed in the aircraft in view of the flight crew to give an indication of the turbulence. The root mean square circuit includes means for selecting the length of the time period over which the root mean square is obtained.
