An attempt was made to measure the effect of rainfall on vehicular traffic flow, by measuring the parameters of rainfall intensity and traffic volume and speed. Two locations were monitored, the second being selected to reduce interference effects due to cross traffic, traffic lights, parked vehicles, etc., experienced at the first. An automatic recording system was developed. This system is described, with emphasis placed on improvements needed. Some tentative results are given, based on a simple model analogy to hydraulic flow conditions in an open channel of uniform cross section and uniform slope. (Author)
