By CSAF message, the AFFTC has been directed to continue support of the XB-70 Flight Research Program as a joint NASA/USAF research effort. The purpose of this test program is to conduct research in technical areas pertaining to large supersonic aircraft. Management of the XB-70 Program has been transferred to NASA as delineated in DOD-NASA Memorandum of Understanding dated 14 March 1967. Joint USAF/NASA responsibilities are identified in this Memorandum of Understanding. The XB-70 aircraft and associated engines and spares, vehicle spares, supporting material, and other equipment o r facilities will be loaned or made available to NASA for general flight research purposes in accordance with the provisions o f "USAF/NASA Loan Agreement for XB-70A Aircraft -Serial No. 62-0001. Specific areas of support that will be provided by the AFFTC are contained in the "Support Agreement between NASA Flight Research Center and Air Force Flight Test Center for the Joint USAF/NASA XB-70 Flight Research Program" dated 2 June 1967.
