The conference followed closely on the publication of the Health and Safety Commission's Consultative Document on the draft regulations for the management of fire and explosive hazards on offshore installations. It provided a timely opportunity to study the latest developments and the requirements of those who implement structural modifications or are concerned with new designs and are involved in maintaining safety cases. The proceedings give a global picture of current practices when designing for the dynamic and non-linear loading regimes which apply to offshore structures which could be subjected to extreme loads. After an opening address on managing structural safety, the papers under 'Structural Integrity' covered; fire and explosion hazards management - new goal setting regulations and industry guidance, structural consequence analysis and topside structural failure due to extreme environmental events.
