The establishment of the National PSV Accident Survey was designed to form a databank on PSV accidents. The features of the data collection system included: standardized accident reporting from participant operators and vehicle design data sheets which could be cross-referred against accident reports. The present report contains a summary of the extensions made to the data collected on vehicle design so that it could include particular features related to factors affecting the use of buses by the elderly and disabled. It also includes a description of accident patterns experienced by passengers on all types of buses, as well as an analysis of the effects of vehicle design characteristics on passenger accidents and types of injury sustained.
