A sample of 160 drivers were asked questions relating to the effect of accidents on their driving standards. The survey took into consideration the degree of personal involvement in accidents and whether the effects of these experiences influenced their subsequent driving performance. The data gathered showed that drivers can learn how accidents are caused and how to avoid them. The work was felt to be relevant to the use of simulated accidents in road safety campaigns.
