A finite superelement of a thin hull was developed and formulated for the analysis of the elasto-plastic behavior of a confined beam subjected to lateral loading before and after subjection to flames. Appropriate degrees of freedom and restraints were introduced for the calculations. The new approach in which an important part of a structure is replaced by a large element whose behavior is specific, is of interest because it considerably reduces calculation time.
