Flight tests were conducted on the Aircraft Collision Avoidance system (CAS). It is an altitude-range device employing the ground reflection method to obtain range data. An airborne unit has been added to provide instantaneous performance of the threat computation, to actuate an alarm, and to indicate the direction and magnitude of an escape maneuver. The purpose of the flight tests was to evaluate the CAS research model to show the capability of the system concept and to determine the system's performance limitations.
