In the report a short discussion is given of the emergence and development of amphibious vehicles, and the fundamental characteristics of wheeled and tracked amphibious vehicles and their means of locomotion through water barriers are considered. The exposition of the marine properties of these vehicles is clarified with the aid of theoretical propositions based on the simplest formulas and graphics. This makes it possible to gain a better understanding of the different physical phenomena arising under the conditions of motion of these vehicles on water. Also disclosed are design features that affect the marine characteristics of these vehicles. General recommendations are made for driving amphibious vehicles under different conditions, and the characteristics of water barriers are briefly examined. (Author)
