The paper describes an automated air traffic control radar system comprising an air surveillance radar-secondary surveillance radar combination (ASR-SSR) connected with the specially designed radar data processing system (RDPS). The system provides automatic tracking of small aircraft with good clutter suppression, minimum safe altitude warning and conflict alerting, and many other functions in an effective and efficient way to ensure safe, high-volume air traffic under a variety of conditions. The system has recently been supplied to the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) and is expected to effectively upgrade air traffic control in China.
