The Safety IDEA (Innovations Deserving Exploratory Analysis) Program supports development and testing of new and innovative concepts and methods for improving railroad safety or performance. The program funds research and development of promising approaches that have the potential for advancing railroad practice. The Safety IDEA Program is funded by the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) and is managed by the Transportation Research Board. This summary report describes the projects funded by the Safety IDEA program, including active and completed projects. A listing of completed Safety IDEA projects and final reports follows.
