Various alternatives of available offers in domestic scheduled air transport are presented and evaluated. A forecast of passenger demand serves as a basis for a specially adapted cost/benefit-calculation model and is used to estimate financial and capacity effects on an air carrier and on airports (differences of financial results due to airport take-off charges). Passengers load factors of 61 %, 66 % and 71 % are discussed. Substitutional effects by high speed rail transport are also presented. Substitution of air trafic offers by an increase of mean rail speed up to 160 km/h, 225 km/h and 280 km/h is discussed on the basis of a travel time difference of 40 to 45 minutes.
